sad-shayari-in-hindi

It is late at night. A chat window is open, the last message still unanswered, and you are not sure whether to write something, delete everything, or simply sit with the feeling for a while.

That is usually when people look for sad shayari in Hindi. Not to drown in sadness, but to find one line that says what they cannot. This page brings together 66 original shayari written for ShayariHubPro and sorted by feeling: dard (pain), tanhai (loneliness), intezaar (waiting), bewafai (betrayal), yaadein (memories) and adhoori mohabbat (unfinished love). Every line is in Devanagari with Roman text underneath. Some come with English meanings, and a few are in Urdu script

Sad Shayari in Hindi by Feeling

sad-by-feeling

Not all sadness is the same. The hurt after an argument is different from loneliness in a crowded room, and waiting for a reply is different from missing someone who is never coming back. Pick the feeling closest to yours and the line will fit better than any generic sad status. (Roman spellings on this page follow one simple style, for example mohabbat, intezaar, tanhai.)

(Dard aur Gham): Pain

When this fits: when it hurts, but there is nobody to blame and nothing to fix.

Dard ne koi dastak nahin di, chupchaap aakar baith gaya,
Aur main apne hi ghar mein mehmaan-sa reh gaya.

Jisne sunna hi nahin tha, usse fariyaad karna chhod diya.

Aansu palkon tak aakar ab laut jaate hain,
Shayad unhein bhi pata hai, ponchhne wala nahin raha.

Raat bhar takiye se jo baatein keen maine,
Subah wo sab meri aankhon mein likhi milin.

Tootne ki aawaz kisi ko sunaai nahin deti,
Bas zindagi ki raftaar thodi dheemi ho jaati hai.

(Tanhai): Loneliness

When this fits: when the room is quiet, or full, and either way you feel alone.

Bheed bahut hai is shehar ki har gali mein,
Phir bhi mera naam pukaarne wala koi nahin.

Sannate se ab dosti ho gayi hai meri,
Kam se kam wo meri baat beech mein kaatta to nahin.

Raat bhar aasmaan ko takta raha main,
Har taare ke saath ek aur taara tha.

Taala kholte waqt roz sochta hoon main,

Ab kisi se baat karne ka mann nahin karta,
Aisa nahin ki koi nahin hai — bas wo nahin hai.

Do cup chai banane ki aadat nahin gayi ab tak,
Ek cup har shaam yunhi thanda ho jaata hai.

(Intezaar): Waiting

When this fits: when you are still watching the phone, the door or the calendar.

“Typing…” aaya aur chupchaap bujh gaya,
Main der tak us adhoore jawaab ko taakta raha.

Har aahat par darwaze ki taraf dekh leta hoon,
Phir khud ko samjhaata hoon — hawa thi, bas hawa thi.

Usne kaha tha “lautunga”, aur maine mausam ginna seekh liya,
Har baarish ke saath ummeed ka rang thoda pheeka hua.

Intezaar ki sabse mushkil baat ye nahin ki wo nahin aata,
Mushkil ye hai ki main phir bhi ruka rehta hoon.

Chaand ne bhi kai baar poochha, “soye nahin ab tak?”,
Maine kaha — “kisi ka jawaab baaki hai.”

Calendar ke panne palatte rahe, mausam badalte rahe,
Meri nazar usi ek ‘jald’ par atki rahi.

(Bewafai): Betrayal

When this fits: when trust was broken and what remains is quiet, controlled anger.

Tumne badalne mein itni jaldi dikhai,

Bewafai usne ki thi, par saza mujhe ye mili,
Ki ab har naye rishte par yaqeen karne mein darr lagta hai.

Tumhein khone se zyada ye baat chubhti hai,
Ki jo mere liye sab kuch tha, wo tumhare liye kuch bhi na tha.

Tumhari qasmon ka wazan itna halka nikla,
Ki waqt ki pehli hawa mein hi bikhar gayin.

Tum maafi lekar laute ho, par der bahut kar di,
Maine apna darwaza ab khud hi band karna seekh liya hai.

Sab kehte hain ki tum badal gaye ho,
Mujhe lagta hai tum wo kabhi the hi nahin, jo maine samjha tha.

(Yaadein): Memories

When this fits: when a song, a smell or a street corner takes you back without asking.

Ek purane gaane ki pehli dhun baji, aur main thehar gaya,
Wo shaam, wo gali, wo tum — sab ek pal mein laut aaye.

Purani kitaab ke pannon mein ek sookhi pankhudi mili,
Aur uske saath ek poora guzra hua mausam laut aaya.

Us mod se aaj bhi guzarta hoon main,
Raftaar apne aap dheemi ho jaati hai.

Tumhari hansi ki yaad ek purane radio jaisi hai,
Kabhi bhi achanak baj uthti hai, phir raat bhar chalti hai.

Darr tumhare yaad aane ka nahin, tumhara chehra bhool jaane ka hai.

Aur mera poora din usi khushboo ke peeche chala gaya.

(Adhoori Mohabbat): Unfinished Love

When this fits: when the story did not end together, but you have made some peace with it.

Tumhara saath haasil na hua, par bahut kuch haasil hua,
Jeene ka saleeqa seekha, aur thoda sabr bhi seekha.

Tumhein paa na saka, iska gham hai, shikayat nahin,
Kuch rishte bas dil mein rehne ke liye hi bante hain.

Raaste alag hue, par chaahat wahi rahi,
Tumhari muskaan salaamat rahe, bas itni hi tamanna rahi.

Ek adhoora khat aaj bhi meri mez par rakha hai,
Likha to tha, magar bhejne ki himmat nahin hui.

Jo baat kabhi keh na saka, wo aaj bhi mere paas hai,
Meri khamoshi mein tumhara naam ab bhi saans leta hai.

Kuch kahaniyaan adhoori hi rahen to achha hai,
Poori ho jaayein to log unhein yaad karna chhod dete hain.

sad-2-line-shayari

Short, clean and made for a status or a caption. These ten are new; none repeats a line from the sections above.

Shikwe bhi unhi se hote hain jinse ummeed baaki ho,
Tumse ab koi shikayat nahin — ye shikayat se bada dard hai.

Jaane wale ko rokne ki zid nahin hai mujhmein,
Bas itna poochna hai — jaana itna aasaan kyun tha?

Maine kab maanga tha tumse saara aasmaan,
Bas tumhari nazar mein ek chhoti si jagah chahiye thi.

Kuch log baarish ki tarah aate hain zindagi mein,
Bhigo jaate hain aur phir mausam soona kar jaate hain.

Tumse bichhadkar ye bhi seekh liya maine,
Ki paas baithe log bhi bahut door ho sakte hain.

Sab kuch wahi hai — wahi shehar, wahi gali,
Bas ek shakhs kam hai, aur kami har cheez par likhi hai.

Kuch shikaayatein itni badi hoti hain,
Ki chuppi hi unka libaas ban jaati hai.

Shayad mere naseeb mein tum the hi nahin,

Din to kaam ki bheed mein kat jaata hai,
Raat aati hai to tumhari kami ka hisaab maangti hai.

Sad Shayari with English Meaning

Some words in Urdu-origin shayari carry more than a dictionary can hold. Here are six shayari with a natural English meaning, written to keep the feeling rather than translate word by word.

Wafa ka sila bhi ajab mila mujhe,
Jise apna sab kuch diya, wahi mera na hua.

Meaning: A strange reward for my loyalty: the person I gave everything to never became mine.

Meaning: Time healed the wounds but left the scars, so that I would never forget someone once belonged to me.

Khamoshi mere har sawaal ka jawaab ban gayi,
Aur tumne samajh liya ki mujhe kuch kehna hi nahin tha.

Meaning: My silence became the answer to every question, and you took it to mean I had nothing to say.

Meaning: I have no control left over anything now, not over you, and not over the memories that arrive uninvited.

Shikwa karoon bhi to kisse, kaise karoon,
Jisne dard diya, wahi to mera humdard tha.

Meaning: To whom, and how, can I complain, when the one who hurt me was once the one who comforted me?

Bhari mehfil mein bhi tanha rahe hum,
Tumhari ghair-haazri har kursi par baithi rahi.

Meaning: Even in a full gathering I felt alone; your absence sat on every chair.

Sad Shayari in Urdu Script

sad-urdu-shayari

These six are written in Urdu script with Roman text beneath, in a more ghazal-like style. They are separate from the Hindi lines above, so Urdu readers get something new rather than a copy.

Dil ki baat labon tak aa kar laut gayi,
Tum saamne the magar himmat chhoot gayi.

Shaam dhali to yaadon ka mela lag gaya,
Aur main us mele mein bhi akela reh gaya.

Jis ke liye humne sab raaste chhod diye,
Usi ne humse sab rishte tod diye.

Koi dastak na koi khat na koi khabar aayi,
Waqt guzra magar aankhon mein wahi nami aayi.

Tumne jo chhoda tha wo ghar ab bhi waisa hai,
Bas har deewaar par tanhai ka saaya hai.

Classic Sad Sher by Great Poets

Shayari has a long memory. Here are four celebrated couplets by two masters of the form, credited to their poets. Everything else on this page is original ShayariBaaz.com writing.

Mir Taqi Mir

Ibtida-e-ishq hai rota hai kya,
Aage aage dekhiye hota hai kya.

Meaning: This is only the beginning of love, so why weep already? Wait and see what lies ahead. Mir says it with a half-smile, which is what makes it hurt.

Patta patta boota boota haal hamara jaane hai,
Jaane na jaane gul hi na jaane bagh to saara jaane hai.

Meaning: Every leaf and every plant in the garden knows my condition. Only the flower, the beloved, does not.

Mirza Ghalib

Roenge hum hazaar baar koi hamein sataaye kyun.

Meaning: It is a heart, not stone or brick; why should it not fill with pain? I will weep a thousand times, but why should anyone torment me?

Ishq ne ‘Ghalib’ nikamma kar diya,
Warna hum bhi aadmi the kaam ke.

Meaning: Love has made Ghalib useless; otherwise he too was a man of some worth. It is sorrow told as a joke.

Sad Shayari to Send to Him or Her

sad-send-to-him-her

Sometimes you do not want to post a line, you want to send it. Every shayari below is gender-neutral, so you can copy it as it is, whether you are writing to him or to her.

Tumhare jaane ke baad zindagi chalti rahi,
Bas usmein se rang thode kam ho gaye.

Kabhi meri yaad aaye to bas itna soch lena,

Maine tumhein roka nahin, ye meri haar nahin thi,
Mujhe wo saath chahiye hi nahin tha jise rukne ke liye kehna pade.

Jawaab mat dena, bas itna jaan lena,
Tumhare bina ye shaamein bahut lambi lagti hain.

Naaraaz ho to keh do, chup rehna sabse badi saza hai,
Baat na karna mujhse saha nahin jaata.

Hum dono apni-apni zid mein haar gaye,
Jeeta koi nahin, bas doori jeet gayi.

Aakhiri baar jab mile the, kaash thoda aur ruk jaate,
Kuch adhoori baatein shayad poori ho jaateen.

Maine tumhare bina hansna seekh liya hai,
Rona bas akele ke liye bacha rakha hai.

How to Write Your Own Sad Shayari

You do not need to be a poet. You need one honest feeling and a little patience. Here is a simple way to begin.

  1. Pick one feeling. Waiting, missing, hurt: choose one, not all three.
  2. Find one concrete image. A phone screen, a cold cup of chai, a street corner. An image makes the reader see what you felt.
  3. Put the turn in the second line. The first line sets the scene; the second line should surprise, soften or sting.
  4. Keep the rhyme simple. If a rhyming word feels forced, drop it. A true line without rhyme beats a false line with one.

A worked example

First draft, which only names the feeling:

Mujhe tumhari bahut yaad aati hai aur main bahut udaas hoon.

After choosing an image and giving the second line a turn:

Ungliyaan aaj bhi tumhara number dhoondh leti hain,
Bas naam ke aage ab kuch likhne ka haq nahin raha.

The draft tells us the writer is sad. The second version shows it: a habit that outlived a relationship, and a quiet ending that says what the writer lost.

Sad Shayari FAQs

What is sad shayari? Sad shayari is poetry, usually in two or four lines, that expresses pain, loneliness, longing or loss. It lets readers say a heavy feeling in a few honest words.

What is the difference between sad shayari and a sad status? A shayari is a poetic couplet with rhythm and imagery. A status is any short line you post, which may or may not be poetic. Many people use a two-line shayari as a status because it says more in less space.

Can I use these on WhatsApp or Instagram? Yes, you are welcome to share the original lines on this page for personal use, and a credit to ShayariBaaz.com is appreciated. The classic couplets belong to their poets, so please name Mir or Ghalib when you share them.

What do words like wafa, tanhai and intezaar mean? Wafa means loyalty in love, tanhai means loneliness, and intezaar means waiting. You will find these and more in the “Words Worth Knowing” list above.

How can I write my own sad shayari? Pick one feeling, anchor it to one image, and put the turn in the second line. The step-by-step guide and a worked example are in the section above.

What if my sadness does not go away? Sadness after a loss is normal, but if it lasts for weeks, or starts to affect your sleep, appetite or daily life, please talk to someone you trust or to a doctor or counsellor. If you ever feel unsafe, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line in your country.

A Gentle Word Before You Go

The best sad shayari does not try to fix a feeling. It keeps you company in it for a minute, so the feeling becomes a little easier to carry. If one of these lines was yours today, send it, post it, or simply keep it.

And if you have a line of your own, write it down and share it in the comments. Someone else may be waiting for exactly those words. Feelings that are named do soften with time, and many people find that the same heart that wrote the sad line later writes a warmer one.
